Where have I been?

Yes, I fell off the face of the blogging planet.

Why? no real reason.

No motivation? (true)

I have not painted a thing since December? (True)

I have gotten new flooring put in my home... it is stunning.

With the flooring I've decided to simplify my life.

I no longer have a large cherry sleigh bed and matching dresser.

I have a mattress and box spring on the floor, clothes piled on an ottoman.

(Actively searching for a queen frame and dresser)

I will be painting again soon... lots of photos I promise.

You know, I have not even made any new fun recipes, either.

A week of having a contractor in your house disrupting your life.. is harder then I thought.

A Few Things To Show You...

Over the past few months...

I have neglected my blog...

I have so many items I have painted I have not shown you...

How about this beautiful Hooiser Style Cabinet?

I have GOT to go over to its owners home and show you how it looks.... it is STUNNING!

Now, this is MY piece.

I wish I had taken before photos....

It was an oak beat up sad little table that was given to me.

These are several pieces I did for a little shop in Morehead City.

I have done so much... without taking pictures!
That is one of my resolutions...
To LOVE my blog and start being more active in blogging.

The Chevron Dresser....

Phew!

Now, this was a lot.... I mean a lot of work.

"Antique" Dresser
(the inlay is faux)

I had this dresser... just sitting out in my barn.

Until, I posted it on my facebook page to see if anyone wanted it.

Of course, the wonderful "Miss" Bena saw it and wanted it as a gift for her daughter.

No, not looking like that!

But looking like this...

Yes, it took a lot of time.

It took over 4 coats of white... (more like 6 and that is with primer)

Lots of measuring, dividing... (Thank you Math teachers I just proved you right that I would use it in life)

I've had a lot of compliments on it posting it on my personal facebook page.

It is going to be picked up tomorrow...

to be given as a Christmas gift!

What a great gift!!

I'd like a gift like that, wouldn't you?!

Happy Holidays!!

Gluten & Dairy Free: French Apple Pie

Gluten and Dairy Free?!! Yes! and it tastes good?! Yes!

My husband is casin intolerant (dairy) and gluten intolerant.

Cooking is a huge task anymore, I was used to the dairy free but gluten is difficult.

I am happy that the market is growing with gluten free products!! I am SO thankful for Betty Crocker!

I saw this recipe on the Better Crocker website, but have changed it to fit for dairy free.

This recipe is VERY easy and I would make it over and over again.

I even think it is something my husband could make himself.

It is more cake like then pie like. VERY delicious!

Filling
3       cups thinly sliced peeled apples (I used 4 apples)
1       teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4    teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2    cup Bisquick Gluten Free mix
1/2    cup granulated sugar
1/2     cup milk (I used soy milk)
2        tablespoons butter or margarine, melted (I used Earth Balance, dairy free)
3        eggs
Streusel
1/3     cup Bisquick Gluten Free mix
1/3     cup chopped nuts(I used pecans)
1/4     cup packed brown sugar
3       tablespoons firm butter or margarine (Again, I used Earth Balance, Dairy free)

Heat oven to 325ºF. Spray a  pie plate with cooking spray.

In medium bowl, mix apples, cinnamon and nutmeg; place in pie plate.

In medium bowl, stir remaining filling ingredients until well blended. (I used my Kitchen Aid)

Pour over apple mixture in pie plate.

In small bowl, mix all streusel ingredients, using fork, until crumbly; sprinkle over filling.
(my topping didn't really "crumble" as you can see below)

Bake 45 to 50 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.

Was it good?!

Yes! Even the pickiest little girl I know, ate it up! Yum!
